Slate is a popular flooring material and sandstone and slate are often used for exterior paving stones, or pavers. Other sandstone applications include fireplace facings, chimneys, garden walls, patio benches, and pool side. Additional slate applications include kitchen countertops, fireplace facings, tabletops, and roofing. The lively colors and unique texture make slates appropriate for interior as well as exterior applications. Slate is derived of compressed layers of sediments that are formed under ocean. Since it is formed in layers, slate can easily be split to expose beautifully textured surfaces. The usual colors of slates are earthy browns, beige’s, yellows, black, dark-grays, and greenish-gray. Meanwhile, the colors of pinks, purples and copper are also found. They usually exhibit lots of variations even in the same quarry. Slates are used for flooring, cladding, and landscaping.
